What is SEER?
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and it is a measure of an air conditioning unit’s energy efficiency. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit. The US Department of Energy requires that all new central air conditioners and heat pumps sold in the US have a minimum SEER of 13, which is a 30-percent increase from previous laws. ENERGY STAR qualified Central Air Conditioners must have a SEER of at least 14, an EER rating of 11 for single package equipment, and an EER rating of 11.5 for split systems.
